Frequently Asked Questions

  • I specialize in small businesses across Massachusetts and beyond, including solopreneurs, service providers, and growing companies that need reliable financial management. My clients come from a wide range of industries, including boutique owners, real estate brokerages and investors, electricians, painters, cabinetry makers, hair salon owners, and more. If your business isn't on that list, don't worry. Most of what I do translates across industries. Reach out and we'll see if we're a good fit.

  • Most business owners hire a bookkeeper when they realize they're spending several hours a month on financial admin instead of revenue-generating work, or when tax season starts feeling like a scramble. Other common triggers are revenue hitting $50K or more, taking on employees or contractors, or finding mistakes in their own records. If you're routinely behind on reconciliations or unsure where your money is going, it's time. Catching it earlier also saves money, since cleanup work costs more than monthly maintenance.

  • Bookkeeping focuses on recording daily transactions and maintaining accurate financial records throughout the year. Accounting involves analyzing that financial data, preparing tax returns, and providing high-level strategic planning. You typically need both. A bookkeeper handles the ongoing work, and an accountant uses those organized records at tax time. Working with a bookkeeper year-round is also more cost-efficient, since your accountant doesn't have to sort through everything at the end of the year.

  • Software automates data entry, but it doesn't know how to categorize a transaction correctly, catch a duplicate, or recognize when something is mislabeled. I see the same mistakes constantly: meals categorized as office supplies, owner draws coded as expenses, transfers between accounts double-counted as income. A bookkeeper interprets the numbers, ensures everything is categorized correctly for taxes, and gives you reports you can actually use to make decisions. The software is a tool. A bookkeeper is the one using it correctly.

  • Catch-up bookkeeping is the process of reconstructing and reconciling financial records that have fallen behind, whether that's a few months or several years. You probably need it if you haven't reconciled your bank accounts in over a month, you can't easily pull a current Profit & Loss statement, your accountant has flagged messy books, or you're filing back taxes. I handle catch-up projects ranging from quick three-month cleanups to multi-year reconstructions. The sooner we tackle it, the less expensive it is.

  • My monthly bookkeeping packages start at $350/month, with pricing customized based on your transaction volume, complexity, and the level of support you need. I offer a free consultation to recommend the right package and provide a clear quote tailored to your business.

  • Yes. While I'm based in Lunenburg and serve Central Massachusetts and the greater Boston area in person, I work with clients virtually across the United States. Bookkeeping is now almost entirely cloud-based, so location doesn't limit how well I can support your business. If you're outside Massachusetts, we'll handle everything through QuickBooks Online, secure file sharing, and scheduled video calls.

  • I update your records weekly so nothing falls behind, reconcile all accounts at the end of each month, and deliver financial reports monthly so you always know where your business stands. Clients on the Growth Navigator and Scalable Success packages also get scheduled finance calls, monthly or bi-weekly, to review the numbers together and talk through what they mean for your business.

  • Yes. Both Accounts Payable (paying bills) and Accounts Receivable (sending invoices and chasing payments) are included in the Growth Navigator and Scalable Success packages. I create your bills, track due dates, and make sure payments go out on time so you avoid late fees and keep vendors happy. On the receivables side, I generate and send invoices, monitor what's outstanding, and follow up so your cash flow stays steady.

  • Onboarding typically takes one to two weeks. We start with a free consultation to understand your business and recommend the right package. Once you sign on, I'll set up secure access to your bank accounts and QuickBooks, review the current state of your books, and identify anything that needs cleanup before we go forward. From there, you get a clear monthly rhythm: I handle the work, you get reports, and we stay in touch.

  • Absolutely. Most of my clients prefer this setup. I keep your books organized and tax-ready throughout the year, then hand clean, accurate records to your accountant at tax time. This saves your accountant hours (which often saves you money on their bill) and reduces the chance of last-minute surprises. If you don't have an accountant yet, I'm happy to refer you to trusted CPAs I work with regularly.

  • Your data is protected with bank-level security at every step. I use encrypted cloud-based software (QuickBooks Online), secure document portals for any sensitive file sharing, and two-factor authentication on every account I access on your behalf. I never store account credentials in plain text, and I follow strict access protocols. If you ever want to revoke access or change a password, you can do so at any time.

  • To get started, I'll need access to your most recent bank statements and your current accounting file, if you have one. That's it. From there, I'll guide you through connecting your accounts to QuickBooks and walk you through any setup steps. Most clients are fully onboarded within two weeks, and I'll handle the technical pieces so you can stay focused on running your business.
